The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by Pres. P. Danik. The minutes
of the October meeting was read by Sec. A. Born and D. Leimbach made a
motion to accept the minutes as read and the motion was seconded by Ollie
Martin, and all were in favor of the motion. D. Wilford gave the membership
report that showed 7 new members, 14 renewals, 3 being for 2 years and the
sale of 1 DVD. We gained 3 new members at Barber and 1 at the Reunion Ride,
but 17 were moved to the inactive list. A. Buehner gave the Treasurers
report as of 10/31/07. Alan stated that Nov. 20th is the deadline for
receiving articles for the Winter Newsletter. A. Born and P. Busick
volunteered to help Alan stuff the envelopes with the Dec. mailings. John
Borer gave a report on getting the Guthries 4 C.D.s compiled into two and he
will be proceeding with that. There was no web-site report due to Bill
Smiths absence.
Paul stated that he has been in contact with Jimmy Davis of KTM and Sept.
13/14 is the tentative date for the 40th anniversary of the Penton
motorcycle and the 10th anniversary of the POG. Paul said that KTM is
showing much interest in this event and will likely be heavily involved in
it. A discussion was held on possibly holding a banquet on Sat. evening, if
a suitable location is found. Paul and Jack Penton will be staying in close
contact with Jimmy to plan this event.
John Borer gave his E-bay report showing the following sales: a red Penton
gas tank with rare original Gelcoat had 9 bids for $400.00, a very rare
Penton/KTM gold enduro tank for a ‘73 250 c.c. had 8 bids for $400.00,a
73/74 Jack-Piner gas tank in VGC including the strap had 8 bids for $305.00,
a 1972 Mettco Penton 6-Day gas tank had 11 bids for $265.00 and a used
crankshaft assembly with a steel rod for 100/125 Sachs engine had 8 bids for
$177.50. A NOS Sachs engine case had 1 bid for $164.99, a head and tail
light in nice condition from a Berkshire had 8 bids for $137.50 and a NOS
piston for ‘76-’78 KTM 175 c.c. had 3 bids for $133.50. Also, a right side
vintage Sachs crankcase cover that looked very good had 2 bids for $51.00, a
Penton tie clasp that had belonged to Ted Penton had 3 bids for $20.50, a
125 Sachs engine, complete with kick start and shift levers had 2 bids for
$305.00, a Penton 125 6-Day (barn fresh) had 11 bids for $510.00 and a ‘74
Penton 250 c.c. Hare Scrambler in VGC had 13 bids and sold for $2950.00.
There was no “Steel Tanker” book report, but Paul stated that photos are
being taken that will be used in the book.
Under “old business”, Paul stated that a Commemorative leather bound John
Penton book has been sent to the AMA Museum for their fund raising auction
that started today. A. Buehner and D. Wilford gave a report on their trip to
Barber, stating that it is a very nice place, as it has recently had a 70
million dollar improvement project. They stated that there is over 1000
motorcycles in the museum there. They also said that the weather was
beautiful after the tornado warning on Thursday passed by. E. Youngblood and
A. Born gave a report on the AMA Hall of Fame Induction week-end that was
held in early Oct. There was also many reports on the 6-Day Reunion Ride
week-end. Paul spoke on how pleased he was to see so many father/son teams
riding the event. Several POG members received awards at the Sat. evening
banquet as follows: Ted DelSolar won the “Iron Man” award, Carl Cranke won
the Al Eames “Mr. ISDT” award, Dane Leimbach won the Bud Ekins “Pioneer”
award and Al Born won the John Penton “Silver Vase” award. Paul told of
getting a phone call from Teddy Landers telling him how good he felt while
riding the MX as Jack Penton and many others were cheering him on.
Under “new business’, Paul stated that he had put a $100.00 ad in the
Reunion Ride program so John Borer made a motion to do that and the motion
was seconded by Scott Brogan and all were in favor of the motion. The
“Penton Day at the AMA” is tentatively slated for Feb. 2, 2008 and our Dec.
6th meeting will be our annual “Family Night”, to be held on Dec. 6th, 2007
at KTM, USA. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
