still working on the Newsletter as he had to change the member profile
article that will be a 2 part article on B. Wardlow.
B. Smith gave the web-site report stating that the site is back to full
strength and that Karen and Scott Reiber are doing back-up on everything. We
held a discussion about all that Scott has done for the POG web-site and
James Borer made a motion to send him $200.00 in appreciation. S. Brogan
seconded the motion and stated that he would have John Penton autograph a
POG shirt and send it to him along with the check and all were in favor of
the motion.

Under old business, Pres. Danik showed everyone an article from the
Pickerington Times that Mark Mederski had written about John Penton and the
POG meeting being held at the Museum and he told of how pleased he was to
have us there. Paul also spoke on the tour of the Moto-cross exhibit that Ed
gave and mentioned how glad he was that Don Mathias was there. He also asked
for suggestions on how to make the “Penton Day at the AMA” better and the
comments were that it could not have been any better. Alan told about a DVD
that is for sale that covers the Moto-cross exhibit introduction that
features E. Youngblood and Jeff Emig. S. Brogan stated that he is giving the
proceeds from the shirt sales to Alan to be put into the POG’s treasury and
he also said that there is still some Jack-Piner shirts available. James
Borer made a motion for the group to allow S. Brogan to order more shirts as
needed and the motion was seconded by O. Martin and the motion carried.
Under new business, Dane talked about the recent Indy trade show and told of
several people stopping by and telling him that they knew several people
with Penton motorcycles in their garages. Jack mentioned that he, John, Dane
and Larry Maiers had attended the Blue Ribbon Coalition breakfast while
there. John talked about his brother Teds wife Mable who had recently passed
away and about finding a lot of pictures and Penton mementos and that he
will be donating some of them to the POG. John also read a couple letters
that he had received from devoted Penton fans and he expressed how good
these kind of things make him feel and “Thanked” the POG for all they have
brought about. The Barber Motor Sports Museum was discussed and Paul is
going to check to see about getting space for a Penton display at their
Vintage Days either this Oct. or next year. Barb Weisman questioned if we
had gotten any response from members in various areas willing to set up
displays and there has not been a lot.
Jeff Borer donated 10 tapes for the video camera to be used at various
events by Rebb and Ted Guthrie. Alan Buehner read a letter from the Hall of
Fame Museum about the breakfast at Deland, Fla. that also contained 2
complimentary tickets and they were given to Conrad Pfeifer as he and a
friend had entered the Alligator Enduro on their Pentons. John Borer gave
Paul a few copies of the DVD that Rebb and Ted Guthrie had made at the
Museum when we had our Penton display set up for the kick-off dinner for the
KTM Dealers meeting. The DVDs were of excellent quality and the POG board
expressed their “Thanks” to Rebb and Ted for a job “well done”.
For “Point of Discussion”, Paul read a little from the John Penton book
about the first Penton motorcycles {right out of the crates} being taken to
the Stone Mountain and Alligator Enduros in 1968. He spoke of all the good
results that were gained by the first Penton riders and there was a
discussion held on that topic. Conrad Pfeifer told about his going to
Daytona this year to ride the Alligator was due to a promise he had made to
his cousin who has recovered from cancer that if he got well that he would
go to ride the Enduro with him. Al Born reported that he had recently talked
on the phone with Bill Kennedy who had inquired about John. Al also learned
from Bill about the December death of Dave Estep who was a 1950s, 60s and
70s Hill-climber and National #99 flat-tracker who was a brother-in-law of
Ronnie Rall. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 pm. and the next meeting is
scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on April 6th at KTM, USA in Amherst, Ohio.
